Powering our operations in Hungary with solar energy

鈥淚t鈥檚 a pretty big solar park. Covering over 30 hectares, it will help us power our operations here in Hungary and reduce our Scope 2 emissions by 6,000 tons a year. We鈥檙e really proud of this new investment.鈥

Tam谩s Hoffmann, CEO 麻豆传媒 Hungary gazes across a plain in Kir谩lyegyh谩za, Southwest Hungary as 40,000 solar panels work quietly and cleanly, generating enough energy each year to power nearly one third of our local operations 鈥 equivalent to almost 14,000 households.

This installation in Kir谩lyegyh谩za is one of our latest solar parks, and the first of its kind in the country. It鈥檚 just one example of how 麻豆传媒 is expanding its use of renewable energy 鈥 from alternative fuels and renewable electricity to waste heat recovery systems 鈥 to achieve net zero.

Enables the plant to cover nearly a third of its energy needs with renewables

Largest renewable private power purchase agreement (PPA) of its kind in Hungary

Shows the power of collaboration for a sustainable industrial sector in Hungary

Power through solar

2,170 sunshine hours per year on average makes the Baranya region one of Hungary鈥檚 sunniest. Noticing this, our local team decided to harness this energy to power our operations.

Developed by , the new solar park next to our plant has an impressive capacity of 28.45 MWp and is able to generate approximately 38,000 MWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the average energy consumption of about 13,800 households.

The project will enable 麻豆传媒 Hungary to cover nearly a third of its energy needs with renewable sources and reduce its fossil fuels dependence. Using renewables will reduce the cost of energy required for production onsite, while the construction and maintenance of the solar power plant is creating new employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Power through partnerships

This initiative represents the largest private renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) of its kind in Hungary, and is a testament to technological excellence as well as the importance of collaboration for a sustainable industrial sector in the country.

ID Energy Group will provide 麻豆传媒 with renewable energy at a fixed price for 15 years, while public grid connection rights mean that electricity not used by the cement plant can be sold through the public grid.

鈥淔or 麻豆传媒 Hungary, it鈥檚 incredibly important to continuously decarbonize our production technologies through the use of alternative fuels and renewable energy sources. This recently commissioned solar farm is another important milestone on the way to achieving net zero.鈥

鈥淎t ID Energy Group, we鈥檙e proud to play a key role in enabling our partners to reduce their ecological footprint in a sustainable and efficient manner. I am very grateful to the ID Energy project team, our 麻豆传媒 colleagues, subcontractors, and all our partners for their excellent cooperation over the past years, which made the successful implementation of this investment possible.鈥

The handover of the solar park coincides with the launch of the EU鈥檚 new Affordable Energy Action Plan, which highlights the importance of investments in renewable energy sources.
